Frequently Asked Questions
Cinema and Pro AV
Q: Where can I find the list pricing for Pro AV screens?
A: If you cannot find the frame and screen size you want out of our home theatre selection, chances are you will require a custom screen and frame. Contact us with your technical specs and we will either connect you with a dealer in our network or work up a quote for your company.
Q: What does it mean to be RealD approved?
A: RealD is in over half of the 3D cinema theatres in the world. They have set a technical screen standard in order for their technology to look its best. A screen sample must first be submitted for clinical testing for aesthetics and polarized light handling capabilities. If it passes their stringent standards, a RealD technician visits the actual manufacturing facility to see and retest the finished product. The SēVision 3D GX optical coating is certified by RealD, as well as Technicolor, Master Image, and IMAX.
Q: What are the differences in silver screens?
A: You can literally SEE the difference in silver screens. A good screen will not have dry spray, lacquer blush, paint striping or inconsistent color characteristics. During movie playback, "ghosting" of images should be at or near non-existent.
Q: How can I tell I have a good silver screen?
A: A simple feel test is a good start. With the back of your hand, check the surface of the screen for smoothness & pliability. It should not feel like sandpaper. The sight test is next with a visual once over in good light. The color should be consistent with no paint striping or lacquer blush. The technical data are the final test including: gain, signal to noise, and the extinction ratio. Call and speak with a specialist to learn more: 866-515-5155
Q: Why install a Severtson SēVision 3D GX silver screen?
A: Silver screens are installed for passive 3D systems to maintain polarization and remove "ghosting", but many exhibitors and integrators are not happy with "industry standard" silver screens. Screens with low signal to noise ratios allow light interference between the left and right eye images, which causes ghosting. Severtson Screens combine all of the aesthetic virtues with peerless technical data including high S/N ratio, to create the BEST silver screen on the planet!

Q: What is the difference between our Legacy Series and our Impression Series verses our Deluxe.
A: The Legacy Series only offers 2 screen materials: Cinema White and Cinema Grey. The Impression Series offers a variety of screen materials including optical coatings. This includes our SeVision 3D GX, Stellar White Digital FX, High Contrast Grey, Grey Vision, Micro Perf, and our Bright White Acoustically Transparent. The frames (3 ¼") are the same, the materials are different. Our Deluxe Series offers all of these screen materials in a bigger 4" heavy duty frame.
Q: Do you need a 3D screen to view 3D material?
A: Yes and no. If the system uses active 3D glasses you can use a regular white or grey screen, preferably one with a higher gain. Our standard Legacy Series screen will work. If you are using a 3D system with passive glasses, you need our SeVision 3D GX coating to help capture the polarized light. With a passive system, without the silver screen, you would see a very blurry 3D image. The screen is a critical component in a passive 3D system. This is where Severtson shines. We have the best screen in the world. No other screen company can match our technical specs. In the 3D world there is a term called Signal to Noise. Our Signal to noise ratio is an astounding 250:1. We maintain a gain of 2.2 while achieving this. This is unheard of in the 3D industry. We are the only RealD 3D certified home theater screen out there. And, one of the few RealD 3D certified cinema screens available.
Q: What is the relationship between different colored screens and the ambient light in the room?
A: Typically, any room with ambient light present, a grey screen (Cinema Grey, High Contrast Grey, Grey Vision) is suggested in order to enhance the contrast between the dark and light colors. In a room with controlled lighting, a white screen (Cinema White, Stellar White DFX, Bright White AT) is preferred to view a brighter picture.
